In may 1857, the Chilean rear admiral Robert Simpson wrote to Lord Cochrane : ” I have been requested to procure a biographical sketch of your Lordship’s eventful life in order to its publication in this country”. That same year Cochrane began work on the first of his autobiographies. The English edition was published in 1859 in two volumes, (Narrative of Services…). Offered here is the much rarer Spanish edition published in London the same year in one volume. Clearly aimed at a Chilean audience, Thomas Cochrane says in the prologue: “This is the story of my relationship with Chilean independence, the details of which are set out in this volume”. A beautiful and rare book that would appeal to the collector interested in Chile.
Condition: Original blue cloth, faded spine , worn extremities, unopened, minor signs of age, browned, overall a very good copy. Please see pictures.
