Chilean physician and essayist Dr. Nicolás Palacios, was highly influenced by the Chilean military victory in the Pacific War and by the racist ideas of Spencer, Gobineau and Gustave Le Bon. Palacios’s work is one of the first attempts to define a “singular” Chilean identity, very distinct from other South American countries.
